HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 21

Requesting the West Virginia Division of Highways to name the
bridge over the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River along county
route 1, near the community of Litwar, the "David C. Perry
Memorial Bridge."
Whereas, On December 3, 1997, David C. Perry was employed as
a foreman on a bridge construction project over the Tug Fork of
the Big Sandy River when he was killed as the bridge collapsed;
and
Whereas, David C. Perry was a member of the United
Steelworkers Union and had worked on many bridge projects over
the past twenty years, including the New River Gorge Bridge; and
Whereas, David C. Perry was from Oak Hill, West Virginia, and
is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Perry; two
brothers, Mark Perry and Matthew Ray Perry; two sisters, Sherry
Murphy and Denise Price; four children, Elizabeth Pelky, Irene
Poff, Jennifer Perry and David Perry; and one grandchild, Marissa
Poff; and
Whereas, David C. Perry is sadly missed by his loving family,
friends and coworkers; and
Whereas, David C. Perry contributed greatly to the quality of
life of many West Virginians through the numerous bridge
construction projects on which he worked, and it is thus appropriate that the bridge project on which he was killed be
named in his honor to commemorate and memorialize his life;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the West Virginia Division of Highways is hereby
requested to name the bridge over the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy
River along county Rroute 1, near the community of Litwar, the
"David C. Perry Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner
of the West Virginia Division of Highways, the Secretary of the
West Virginia Department of Transportation, the Governor of West
Virginia and the parents of David C. Perry.
